Welcome

I'm Phil Critcher from Stone Mountain, GA. When I was a teenager in the Southeast US, I would spend hours at night listening to AM radio stations from as far away as I could. I was fascinated to be able to hear what was going on in cities like New York, Boston, Pittsburgh, Chicago and even Del Rio, Texas. It was like traveling without leaving my home town. Sports, music, local events, it was great!

Things have changed a lot since then - now you can hear radio from all over everywhere on the internet. And the sound quality is way better, too! This blog is designed to help you find the best radio on the web from around the world. Check out the links below, or browse the various categories to find what you want, then sit back and enjoy the ride.

AllKrap Radio

I'm not sure about the name of this station - probably not what I would have chosen. But what's in a name, right? The music is universally good, and they play lots of different styles covering a wide time frame. The style mix seems to depend on when you listen. Since I like a lot of variety, this is a great station for me. Excellent if you're more of a mixed bag type of listener.

Remake Radio

This is a strange station, but pretty cool. It's all covers. No originals. There's lots of good songs, though. You'd be surprised how many big artists have done covers. And there's some pretty good stuff from more obscure artists as well. Worth checking out.

Mohawk-Radio.com, Kahnawake, Mohawk Territory, Canada

A mostly hard rock station with a lot more than just 3-chord stompers. The songs these guys play have both slash and depth. A great choice if you're in a metal mood. And because they're located just across the river from Montreal, they're a good source of info on the music scene there.

Southern Soul and Blues Report, USA

If you're looking for old-style R&B, you know, that great stuff with the sweet melodies and the irresistible beats, then check this station out. This stuff is so smooth, you just can't help yourself from getting lost in the groove. When you need a shot of soul, this is it.

Lounge-radio.com, Switzerland

This is a downtempo jazz station with a touch of Brazil. Great grooves here, with that little bit of electric bossa nova to give it a tropical feel from time to time. Very nice.

My Red Lounge

An excellent jazz vocal station. I don't know where they're from, but they have a great selection of vocal numbers. They cover a wide range of artists, from Dean Martin to Norah Jones. And it's not just jazz, there's a lot of blues here too. So far I haven't heard a bad song. If you like vocal jazz with a blues flavor, this station is for you!

All Southern Rock, South of the Mason-Dixon Line, USA

Being from the south, I've been a fan of southern rock since it started (I'm dating myself here). So imagine my surprise when I found an entire station devoted to it. Most of this stuff I've never heard, but it's universally great. A lot of blues-tinged stuff as you would expect. Wonderful.

Radio Jazz Plus, Montreal, Quebec, Canada

I just talked to my roommate from college and told him about the blog here. He's a jazz fan, so I thought I'd add some more of the great jazz stations I've found. This one advertises itself as the first smooth jazz live internet radio in French. I can't understand the talk, as usual, since all I know is English at the moment. But I really like the sounds, which they call Smooth Jazz Without Borders. A good description, since there's more here than just smooth jazz. Check it out. It could be just what you're looking for.
